[ubuntu] Re: Installed 9.10 - no internet (wired connection)

I hate to say it but I get the feeling that 9.10 was rushed. So many network/internet issues. For an OS trying to prove its ready for prime time, having internet issues is a bad start.

    Don't get...

  6. [ubuntu] Re: Was someone or something trying to hack into my machine?

I had downloaded a torrent that night (I was downloading jaunty) but I it had finished a few hours earlier and I had closed Deluge and deleted the torrent file.
  7. [ubuntu] Was someone or something trying to hack into my machine?

    Hi,

Last night I opened Firestarter and saw under the 'events' tab that I had all these blocked connections from various ip addresses, all on port 4613, protocol UDP. I know nothing of networking...

Thanks for the tip! I did new installs on both my machines and I could no longer connect them by ssh. This fixed it.
  9. [ubuntu] Re: need help backing up bookmarks before uninstalling ubuntu

You can go into 'Organize Bookmarks' in the bookmarks menu and then export them. When you reinstall it, just import them. Or even better, grab the Xmarks (formerly Foxmarks) add-on for Firefox.

Poll: Re: what browser do you think is fastest?

You can have my Firefox when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. :)

Honestly, I've only briefly tried Opera, Chrome and a few others so I don't have much of a comparison. I just love Firefox and...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: How can I tell if my RC has upgraded to Final?

I think this is true. I've been running the beta since it came out. There were lots of updates at first, but then they slowed down and today, there were only a few. I tried to upgrade using the...

Re: The official Ubuntu 9.04 is released thread.

I downloaded both the Live and alternate CD's (64-bit) from torrents about 3 hours ago. I was getting blazing speeds. Each one averaged around 800kb/s and were hitting 1.5mb/s regularily. It took...

[ubuntu] Re: remove windows, keep ubuntu

Its simpler than you think. The 'windows stanza' is the text you see in the boot menu, its the option you select to boot xp, you won't want it if you don't have it. All you have to do is edit your...

  23. Re: In times of error, do you fix or reinstall your system?
