You were absolutely on target with the nano /etc/X11. The only 2 thing I did more was to
1) rm -rf xorg.conf.*.
2) nano the xorg.conf.fail safe as well with your mighty entry.

Just used 9.04amd installed in vmw on my imac 2008 to make usb disk image. Used bootx86.efi and grub.cfg with these entry;

Just install the pre=released 9.10 karmic onto vmware 2.05.
1)fusion quit a few times.
2) have to manual fsck on 1st restart.
3) restart to black screen after vmware tool. Solved with software...

Just reconfig my airport base station specifically with WAP2 AES/cCm. And then signed selecting the AES-- instead of AUTO (default) option. Now I have encrypted wifi.
