With the light on orange i suggest to me that you are trying to connect using WEP, are you sure that the card is reconized by ubuntu? what is the output of your lspci?

Sorry thought you had a broadcom wireless, as far as aware your card should be ok, i will do some digging for you,you could try "ear media" its based on heron and everything works out of the box,...
